Report: December 9. Looking forward to the second half of the Texas duck season. I hunted our marsh in Chambers County every weekend in the first half. We limited out or came close most days, although it was mostly shovelers with the occasional pintail or teal. We could have done even better had the ducks been attracted to our location. Our pit blinds were well chosen in a sense because they were in the middle of some great habitat. But the ducks were in such great numbers that they ate everything, and now tend to land out of range.
We had one good hunt in layout tubs that got us closer to the ducks. Things were going great until a floating nest of fire ants drifted against my tub. You can figure out what happened next.
Cold weather has pushed in over the break and I'm hoping it brought more gadwalls and mallards. We'll see.

Report: Went out Saturday (Dec. 3) morning on a piece of our property that has good water on it. We have been seeing good ducks numbers there for the past two weeks. There has been some good numbers within a 2mile radius. The birds are still locals maybe some Michigan birds. We ended up getting 7 mallards and one shovler. Bad thing was we shot 6 hens, you will have those days. I haven't had a chance to see if the birds are still around or if we had a push. It is almost dark when I get home from work. We plan on going to the same spot this up coming Saturday so we will see.

Report: Went out Saturday morning for ducks. With the weather turning colder and snow in the forecast, we figured there was a chance we'd get a push of birds from the north. Well the weather diddnt show and the ducks diddnt either. We ended up with 4. We haven't had our big push through this area and have been hopping it doesn't happen when season is closed in a week.

Report: It was one hell of an end to the second split. In Texas, it's true - if you have water you have birds. I went out four times in the last week. The first time out it was 3 birds, then two limits in a row, and closing day of the 1st split I harvested 5 birds. I have many happy friends with bellies full of duck AND my belly is full of fresh duck.
Looking forward to the second split of the Texas season!
